Plywood Money (Fanera), 2001, 32 Inkjet prints on newspaper pages wall mounted, 280x224 cm.
For this project I took a picture of the chunk of the plywood and turned in high contrast B&W and printed it using an inkjet printer on the pages of the New York Times Sunday edition Money & Business stock report pages. The composite represented the single chunk of plywood on 32 pages of the newspaper. It was my American homage to the slang of my youth back home.
The project was first shown at the “Courthouse Gallery” inside the Anthology Film Archives in East Village, NYC during my first one man show in New York (curator at large: Jonas Mekas). The second presentation was at the “ArtVilnius 2016” in the Special Projects section of the fair (curators: Sonata Baliuckaite and Diana Stomiene).
The Secret Map of the Real Estate, 2002, 24 B&W Inkjet prints on newspaper pages wall mounted, 238x168 cm. Project was shown at the “City Spotting” exhibition in 2002 at the ARTeritorija Gallery in Kaunas (Lithuania). Curator: Audrius Novickas.
The Secret Map of the Real Estate is a displaced/fictional map of Midtown Manhattan. I photographed a few pages of the NYC street map and later printed them using an inkjet printer on the pages of the Real Estate section of the Sunday New York Times newspaper. Later I composed those prints on separate pages into this composite image representing this “Secret Map.”
