800 Portraits of the People I Don’t Know
Two large scale HD video projections called 800 Portraits of the People I Don’t Know Part 1 and Part 2 were on display in SLA Art Space gallery in NYC. More about the show
Details: “800 Portraits of the People I Don’t Know” is a two separate large scale video projections (each 15 min long, played simultaneously, but it could also be one 30-40 min video) made roughly from 800 street photo portraits shot in 4-year period in New York City resembling my journey from Uptown Manhattan in the summer, crossing many neighborhoods till the lowest point in Downtown and later Brooklyn, Queens and back to Manhattan all the way up from Downtown to Uptown in winter time. Videos have a soundtrack of the street noise related to the particular location. Also, it is not a simple slideshow. The screens animate in a certain order, which makes my characters interact with each other. The whole installation has a feel of space and location as well as the seasons of the year. The placement of every portrait is not random, but carefully selected and very particular to my scenario.
