Project Description:
During the years in the past, I collected a big amount of my local supermarket weekly advertisement posters. I liked how plain and simplistic they looked, almost no design, just one plain color (usually red and dark blue). At that time, I had no idea what I'd do with them, so I just took pictures of all of the posters and put them away in the file. Recently I was working hard on my project of street portraits of the New York people and accumulated a big amount of this material also. So, I got this idea to merge my poster collection with my street portraits in sort of fake magazine cover fashion produced as a PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT and combine them with the REAL SUPERMARKET POSTERS from my collection. All these posters have a tagline: “New York is Our Bag,” which gave me an idea for the name of the project: “New York is My Bag,” And yes, New York is my bag, so to say, the bag of endless inspiration and challenge at the same time.
Important technical note:
I didn’t use AI for this project. My portrait photographs were edited in photoshop to incorporate poster elements. Each example attached to this submission consists of 2 PHOTOGRAPHS (manipulated with the poster contents in Photoshop) and 2 REAL POSTERS. For the exhibition it would use PRINTS and REAL POSTERS combined. The size of the poster (and the print) is roughly 35x45 in each; a combination of 4 would be 70x90 in respectively. I can estimate that I’m going to create about 80 artworks or even more (containing two portrait images and 2 posters each), or maybe more.

New York is My Bag - This is an example of how the actual exhibition installation might look and to understand the scale of the artwork itself. (For this particular visualization I used a picture from Tallinn Art Hall Gallery where I previously had my one man show, just different project)
